With more than 65 million registered users to date, LinkedIn is one of the most popular social networking sites online. If you have not created your LinkedIn account yet or are not yet familiar with its features, here are ways on how you can get started with LinkedIn. Remember, you have to create an account first before you can access all the features and sections that are part of your LinkedIn account.

1. The Navigation Bar shows everything important

This is located at the top portion of the page once you are logged on to your LinkedIn account. This includes the links for the Home, Profile, Contacts, Groups and Inbox, to name a few. Here, you can also find the Search box. This is where you can look for groups or people that you want to get connected with. The Settings can be found at the upper right part of the page which would allow you to customize almost everything about your LinkedIn account including your preferred privacy settings.

2. The Homepage provides the latest updates

From here, you could see the different activities within your network and get the latest updates from your friends. You can also share anything by typing in your thoughts in the box provided after your photo. You have to click the Share button afterwards so your friends can see what you want to share.

3. Your Profile determines your identity

The information that you would include in your profile would allow other people to find you easily on LinkedIn. If you want a lot of people to see you on this social networking site, fill up your profile with as many details as you can so they can easily connect with you.

4. The Contacts shows who you are connected with

These are the people within your network and the people you can connect with. Only add those you really know. You can add the contacts from your online address book and Gmail so it would be easier for you to build your network in LinkedIn.

5. Join Groups of your expertise and interest

Groups are important in LinkedIn because they show people what your expertise are and find possible business partners through them. Be sure to join groups that interest you and groups where you can share your knowledge.

6. Find Jobs opportunities or find your employees

If you are currently unemployed, you can find potential employers in the Job section. This section allows you to view a list of job openings and their requirements. If you have a company and you need to fill a vacancy, then you can place an ad in LinkedIn.

7. The Inbox allows you to message your contacts directly

The Inbox section lets you send direct messages to other people. This means only you and the other party can access this section where you can view received, sent and archived messages, and compose messages as well.It would be easier for you to get used to LinkedIn by searching for the people you want to be a part of your network. You can choose to search for groups or people by narrowing the results. This way, you would surely have fun connecting with your friends and potential clients via LinkedIn.
