Default How much traffic before CTR optimization?

Hi everyone.
We all know the first thing that every site needs is traffic and once we have a decent amount of constant traffic we should look for improving on the CTR.
My question is, What should be this amount of traffic after which we should work on the CTR?
Like few hundreds, few thousands etc.

Personally, I do it the other way around. I'd make sure ad placement is really already good and then start investing on the traffic, otherwise if traffic came first, that's a lot of wasted potential "clickers" had your ad placement already been properly placed. So, if you want good CTR, make sure ad placement is already at its best (improve as you go and from what you eventually do learn once traffic comes in) in order to ensure that what you've invested for the traffic does not go to waste.

Good luck at improving your site's CTR (if that is what this question is for)!

I don't think so there is need to watch your traffic at this point. If you are getting say 50 page views per day and on one day your earnings are $10 and the other day your earnings are $0.5 and it goes throughout the month. You will notice that you got 1500 impressions in one month(just like in one day) and the ctr and earnings are also similar. So start working on your click through rate right from the first impression because traffic doesn't matter at this point. I explained it in a little bit difficult language(hope you got it what i said ).

I too do not look at traffic first. I optimize the site for high CTR since the start and they bother about the traffic. If you have proper content traffic will anyway come to your site

There are points on which it is not possible to increase the CTR unless you are placing your ads against the AdSense TOS.
Increasing the traffic seems to be the only valuable option.
Try to target and build more links for several other keywords.

yes very good point indeed. if the traffic is just a few uniques a day , then increasing the CTR may infact alert google for invalid click activity! but if the traffic is good i think there is every chance that one needs to work to get the CTR up immediately.
but if everything is white and clean, there is no need to worry, it is just a pun!
yes concentrate on increasing CTR form the begining , so that the page itself appears more appealing and when the traffic increases then the potential of more clicks and the possibility of returning customers is increased,
getting traffic and then increasing CTR makes no sense ,apart form this being due to lack of time! and effort!

Exactly, nice point neo666. The lower the traffic the more significant missclicks are. Assuming that you get 1 visitor per day, that 1 visitor as you and you then click on your ads, 100% of the clicks are missclicks!

In comparison, 1000 clicks and 1 missclick would be a percentage of 0.1%.

I'd start adding AdSense once you have 100-200 UVs per day, depending on your niche. The more niche the faster I'd recommend you to add AdSense units.

I think you should focus on getting at least about 500-100 unique visitors a day before focusing on that. Really though, it is a matter of opinion as to when this should be done. Some people would say that you should just go ahead and get it out of the way BEFORE you get any traffic at all. That way you are set up from the get go and you don't have to worry about it after that. if you want to improve your click through rate AND your traffic then you should focus on getting targeted traffic instead of just random traffic that most likely won't revisit your site and won't convert into a profitable "ad clicker".

Good call criticalcontent, focus on getting some search traffic - not social - after you got stable traffic and a well ranking in google for your best keywords, then add advertising to your site as doing that might also lower your ranking by a bit.

Advertising is just part of the developing process. Allowing good flow of traffic through sharing good contents that will interest the public is always a good start as it is back-upped with customizing of websites to let the visitors stay and expect new and latest trends in the market. Also, it is important to focus on similar keywords in order to keep the contents on-track with relevance and significant results.
