Build your own Authority Backlinks

This post does not immediately relate to AdSense, however I do want to introduce my newly created WordPress blog Create Authority Backlinks.

The concept

The idea behind this blog is that anyone can register an account there and start posting articles, creating an authority blog overtime. The more authors that are posting articles, the faster it will become an authority blog. But why join?
See it from this point: A single author blog will take tons of time to produce content, and therefore – if you’re not an exception – will never get an authority site. Even DuoBlogger is run by 2 guys ;)

The strength lies with multiple authors, all producing content for their own target websites. Include a backlink to a newly made website of yours and get it ranked/indexed fast. If you are tired of making Wordpress/Blogger blogs with 2 posts and then moving on to create the next blog: this works much better than making those spam blogs.

So the concept is pretty simple, post quality content and link to your own targeted website. (with the right anchor text of course)

What makes it different than any other article directory?

Google values editorial directories such as DMOZ and Yahoo!’s directory. Having a link on an article directory that isn’t edited by the admin will not be as strong as a having a backlink from those 2 websites. (not considering the PageRank).
If the articles on a directory are not monitored by an admin, too many spam articles will pop up and devalue the directory as a whole.
And trust me, Google knows which sites are crap and which not.

That is why I wrote the author requirements, this will not only reduce the confusion for submitting articles, but it will also make sure all the articles are of high quality. Which is what we want if we want to rank high in the serp’s and drawing more visitors to the blog. Ultimately making money from them using the AdSense Revenue Sharing plugin. Monetization will start once the blog reaches 100 search visitors a day.

Authors that submit a lot of articles of high quality will be eligble to share the revenue with. The only thing I need from you is your publisher ID and a channel number, which is optional if you want to track it’s performance.

If you are interested in joining me from the start and get ahead of others, follow this sign up link and register an account.

See you there!

Cheers,

Mark

PS. If you have any more questions regarding this concept, make a comment below or one on the newly created blog.

Targetting Long Tail Keywords

We on DuoBlogger are using different kinds of SEO techniques to increase our rating in the search engines. Today I’m going to talk about Targetting Long Tail Keywords, what it is, and what to do with it.

A good point between long and short tail keywords is that long tail keywords often get alot less search results in Google and that way you would have alot less competetion, and thus more likely to get more visits. I’ll give an example: Search for “Blogging Tips” and see how many results it gives (near 2 million). Compare that to “Blogging Tips for Beginners” which results in merely 600.000 results. Ofcourse this is still a huge amount, but much easier to rank higher if you focus most of your related post on those keywords, this also results into higher conversions.

Plugin

Using the All-In-One SEO plugin for Wordpress, is making it rather easy to manage the keywords, descriptions, titles of each post, making them more Search Engine friendly.

Statistics

I made a graph which explains the correlation (connection) between the monthly searches (Y) for specific keywords and the amount (X) of them. As you can see the amount of keywords as they increase, will also decrease the monthly searches for those keywords. Many SEO Experts will tell you to focus on 3 to 4+ keywords since competing with established websites whom are using 2 keywords will be hard.

What should you do?

So what we did on DuoBlogger lately is looking into Google Analytics and find the keywords which people are using to reach our blog. We searched through some of the recent days and it looked like we had some visits on these keywords:long-tail-keywords2All the other days looked fairly the same for those keywords. Typing that keyword in Google gave me the result which lead to: Must Have PC Software For Bloggers. So to make this more SEO friendly, we would have to rename the title, description and keywords for the post. As you can see we now named it: Top Blogger Apps. Which should, after reindexing by Google rank up in page 1 in the SERP’s. (If the keywords don’t have much competition you don’t even need that many backlinks to that sub-page, you simply do your on-page optimization like changing the page title then get it indexed then it will start to rank.)

Short Vs. Long Tail Keywords

So you should question yourself if you should focus on short tail or long tail keywords. It all depends on the niche you are in.

You may be wondering why anybody would want to target hundreds of keywords which bring only small traffic. Well the answer is simply that there is less competition so you can rank on the first page of Google for long tail keywords far easier than ranking for short tail keywords. Yes, they don’t bring a lot of traffic separately but if you target lots of long tail keywords you can get lots of easy traffic (note: only a handfull, not that much, but it’s targetted traffic). Not everybody is capable of ranking high for highly competitive keywords but anybody can rank for long tail keywords.

Another benefit of long tail keywords is that the visitors convert amazingly well to sales and ad clicks. The visitors searching for long tail keywords know exactly what they want, be it ‘Small Business Web Design’ or ‘Half Priced Computers’ whatever, they know exactly what they want and hopefully you can provide it to them, and thus generating sales.

See what other Twitterers focus on

I asked around on Twitter to my followers if they were targetting  long tail or short tailed keywords. Here is the result:

@Rajupp from TechPP said: I use long tail keywords as well as short ones, just to give you an example, I use “Watch online TV Free” and “Online TV” & …

@Hendricius from DuoBlogger said: I focus on short ones and then try to include long term ones in the post. I try using alternatives to the short title.

@PassTheBoll from PassTheBoll said: I try to use relevant keywords. Usually they are single words, but sometimes phrases.

So what do you focus on, long – short – mulitple? Problems ranking high for some keywords? Share it with us.

Does PageRank Matter For SEO?

Curious to see what your PageRank is now? Check labnol.org to see it (of course, you can always go the toolbar route, but that doesn’t show your actual PageRank).

Personally and professionally, PageRank is meaning less and less these days. Why? Here are 5 reasons:

1. Social networking sites have taken on just as much authority as blogs yet these social profiles and pages fall outside the playing field of PageRank.

pagerank_google

2. Sure, PageRank is important for SEO and PPC to some extent, but if you’re doing marketing work in the niches, PageRank becomes increasingly non-relevant. So if your ad revenue is affected just because PageRank changes, then you’re not doing something right. Not exploring the right monetization options. Not having a long term business plan. Not making full use of the traffic you have. Not getting the right advertisers who know the value of your site.

And all these are factors within your control. Who cares what Google thinks about content or site quality? People are the ones who visit your site and decide if its worth reading or recommending to someone else. Google doesn’t own the way you write or think in any way. They don’t influence the type of content you decide to put on your blog.

The point is, PageRank is great if you’re dealing with keyword buys on large scale sites or blogs, but it’s not the ultimate determiner of a site’s authority.

3. PageRank has always been a standard for determining a site’s legitimacy for consumers, affiliate managers, bloggers and even Google itself.

4. Affiliate managers and advertisers have better tools to determine if a site is legit these days. PageRank is a part of that mix, but not the dominant part anymore.

5. Google itself doesn’t seem to always abide by PageRank only in its own SERP’s (Search Engine Result Pages).

Keep this point in mind: People can do whatever they want to you and they often will. You however have the power to determine how you want to react to their actions. Google will adjust its PageRank scores in a way they deem fit (it’s their toy after all) and ultimately you must decide how you will cope with the possible results.

Successful Link Building Strategies

In this blog post I would like talk about about the methods on successful Link Building, on finding relevant – and potential LinkPartners. There are of course many ways to build links, for example Link Baiting and the use of Social Media, which you can read more about it here.

UPDATE: We just updated our blog with 2 Custom Search for finding either Dofollow Forums or DoFollow Blogs. Let us know what you think.

Link Building is one of the most effective way to promote your website. With some well placed links from high authority sites you could generate tons of visitors. Having other websites link to you does mean that they liked your content and thus fits in their ”theme”.

This way of thinking is also applied to Search Engine Spiders/Crawlers – and that’s why having alot of quality backlinks and thus scoring higher in PageRank algorithms means that you rank higher in Search Engines.

Effective Link Building Strategies:

1.  Do-Follow Blog Comments

One of the best ways, and also the least time consuming, is commenting on Do-Follow blogs. To get started: Head over to either Backlinkmagic.com or courtneytuttle.com and type in the Keywords your blog concentrates on. You will get a list of blogs where commenting is Do-Follow, keep in mind that not every page is Do-Follow. Also do not try to make fast comments, like you are jumping from blog to blog trying to get as many backlinks as possible, because giving a more in-depth comment will get accepted by the Author rather than be seen as spam. Wouldn’t you like it if someone skips your content just to place a backlink to his own blog?

2.  Do-Follow Forums

This is not a way to make backlinks fast to your site, because most forums won’t allow you to post links to site below a certain amount of posts. There is a list at Backlinkmagic which you can find here that shows all the high authority forums. SitePoint and DigitalPoint are some of those. Leaving a link here and there at most forums will not only generate traffic but also helps with the amount of backlinks. Giving you a higher PageRank.

3.  Link Baiting

This is a topic that’s been around for a while but I don’t think a lot of people know what it is, or how to use it to their advantage. I think the name “Link Baiting” could be considered a black hat technique which is why most people wouldn’t consider it as a legitimate tactic.

fishing_bait

However link baiting is merely link building with a twist: Rather than hunting out links, you are bringing the links to you through unique and popular site content.

So how does Link Baiting work?

Link Baiting is just like fishing. You publish a new page on a topic and set it free on the web. Hopefully others pick up on the content as fresh and interesting and link to it. The article is the bait, and the link is the catch.

A properly created page can capture huge links on its own with little to no effort from you.

Problem is… most topics are already covered.
