WordPress on iPhone

With around 15 million iPhones sold worldwide and over 20 (?) million iPod Touch’s, Hendrik proposed to install the plugin; WPtouch on our blog. This handy plugin will help our image intensive blog to be loaded near instantly on the iPones and iPod’s. And because many people in our community/niche are using mac stuff, it would be wise to jump into this trend.

What is WPtouch?

WPtouch automatically transforms your WordPress blog into an iPhone application-like experience when viewed from an iPhone or iPod touch. It comes complete with ajax & effects, and all the standard WordPress blog features: search, login, categories, tags, archives, photos & more. WPtouch also allows for near-complete customization through your WordPress admin.

Basically it shows the title, categories and your (new) posts in big shapes which makes it easy to scroll through the content, which in turns helps your blog on the mobile to be user friendly. As you can see on the image on the right there is a calendar which shows the date the per post with a red dot which shows how many comments there are per entry post.

Why use it?

Good question, this all depends on yourself if you find it important enough for your blog. If your visitors are mainly browsing your blog using their computer and not their mobile then there is no need to implement it. Head over to Google Analytics to see if you have any visitors via an iPhone or iPod. If so then I recommand implementing it since it gives them so much more comfort reading. We on DuoBlogger love it and had numerous visits via iPhone but only 1 via iPod Touch, and since it’s just an plugin and only takes a moment of your life to install, why not do it? :)

  1. I use WPTouch, too. I am really satisfied. It is super easy to work with and setup. I even had no trouble inserting ads into it. I definitely recommend this for all WordPress bloggers.

  2. I do have a good experience with WPTouch also. It is a shame for every blogger if you miss this opportunity. Thanks for pointing it out in a blogpost.

  3. Thanks for heads up. By the way, using GA, how do you check those traffic that comes from iPhone?

    1. When your in Google Analytics, look under visitors for “operating systems”. It’s the easiest way to see how many visits you get from for example iPhone.

Checked it again later this morning and saw we had a visit from the playstation 3 :) how neat is that?

  4. That’s actually pretty cool (and easy). I haven’t had any visitors come to my blog via an iPhone yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen (or that I shouldn’t be ready for it).

    1. Yea, it seems like mark and me are currently the only iPhone visitors but it’s worth it. The mobile industry is still expanding fast.

  5. I never considered installing any extra plugin..but this one seems to be pretty good and handy…
